Do you know the differences between plain weave and twill?

1. The appearance is different. The two sides of the plain weave cloth are the same and the texture is monotonous. The two sides of the twill cloth are obviously different (the textures are different: the yarns of the plain weave cloth are interwoven one up and down, and the front and back have the same texture, while the twill cloth is interwoven two up and down or three up and down, and the front and back are the same. It has left or right twill, and there is no obvious twill on the reverse side. Therefore, the grain of plain weave is relatively simple, while twill has more complex lines and patterns.);

2. The properties are different. Plain fabric is breathable and wear-resistant, while twill fabric is soft and wrinkle-resistant, but easy to wear;

3. Different structures: Plain weave fabric is thicker because the intersection points of the yarns on the fabric are denser, and it is also harder in texture and feel. Twill fabric is softer because its interweaving method makes the texture extend more longitudinally, and different diagonal textures appear on the surface.

4. Different uses: Plain fabric is usually used to make shirts, bed sheets, autumn suits, etc., while twill fabric is suitable for making clothing and bedding. This is because due to twill's better wrinkle-resistant properties, it holds its shape more easily when making garments.

5. Different characteristics: Plain weave fabric uses plain weave fabric, and the yarns have more interlacing points on the fabric, which is more wear-resistant and stronger than other fabrics of the same specification, while twill fabric uses various twill weaves, with warp or warp patterns on the surface of the fabric. The rhombic texture formed by long weft lines is slightly thicker, softer, and well-organized.

7. The weaving methods are different. Plain weave fabric is woven once every other warp and weft thread, which has a low density and is light and thin. Twill fabric is woven once every other two threads, which is dense and thick. (Plain weave uses an up and down interweaving method, so the front and back of the woven fabric are the same, with a stiff and smooth feel. However, because of its low density, the fabric has little elasticity. Twill fabric uses alternate needles or three needles. The warp and weft weave has different textures on both sides.

Secondly, plain weave fabric is relatively light and thin, has good air permeability and is not prone to snagging. Twill fabric has a high density and a thicker and softer feel. However, it has fewer interlacing points of warp and weft and is not as wear-resistant as plain weave fabric. )

Finally, plain weave cloth is usually divided into Taiping cloth, medium plain cloth, fine plain cloth, etc. The twill fabric is divided into two types: thick and thin. Plain weave has fewer lines and uses more yarn-dyed weaving methods, and is mostly used for bed sets. Twill fabric has many printed patterns and is mostly used for inner covers.
