first step

Before cleaning your cushions, you must know which category they belong to. What fabric are your cushions made of? Later we will focus on cotton, leather, linen and vinyl cushions separately. But first, we'll provide some basic tips that apply to all types of saddles.

The first tip we'll give is what you need to know about the cleaning instructions for your mat. The cushions have labels indicating how ideally they should be cleaned. Learn to decipher the labels on the cushions, provided they are still intact.

How to Clean Your Cushions

Some symbols on the label may need explanation:

X: If you see an X, you are not eligible to clean the cushion. It may sound inconvenient, but a professional cushion cleaner can guarantee the job is done right.

WS: WS is a bit general and means you can use a water-based cleaner or a waterless cleaner.

S: S means that it is forbidden to wash the seat cushion with water-containing products. You will need to use a dry cleaning solvent such as alcohol to effectively clean the seat cushion.

W: W means you can safely clean the seat cushion with a water-based cleaner. If you only see a W, breathe a sigh of relief; you'll have the most relaxing time of any pad cleaning option.

If you do use any type of fabric cleaner, test it on a small section of the inside corner of the mat to make sure nothing crazy is happening. Be sure to let it soak for a few minutes before coming back to assess if it has damaged the cushion.

If you use a solvent to clean your pads, you need to make sure you only clean in a well-ventilated area. Do not use solvents in closets or small rooms. Open the window, or simply go out. Toxic fumes are no fun.

Now that you've explained how you should clean your seat cushion, it's time to get ready to clean it.

pre-clean

Pick out any major debris or clumps of pet hair. Then, identify any stains or areas on the mat that need special attention during the cleaning process.

Run a small vacuum cleaner on the mat. Make sure you use a soft brush on the vacuum and make sure the brush itself is clean.

If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, you're going to have to do things the old fashion way. Take your mat outside in the sun and pat it hard. You'll know you're done when the particles are no longer visible in the air.

Now, it's time to use our suggested cleaning regimen for each type of pad. Remember, trust the cushion labels - the cushions are not made by us.
