Are mechanical jacquard machines expensive to maintain?

A mill must choose a loom and shedding mechanism that suits its commercial needs. In general, the more warp control, the greater the expense. Therefore, it is not economical to buy a jacquard machine if a dobby can be used.

In addition to capital expenditures, Jacquard machines are more expensive to maintain because they are complex and require more skilled personnel; an expensive design system is required to prepare the design of the loom, and possibly a card cutter.

Weaving costs are higher because the jacquard mechanism is more prone to failure than a dobby or cam opening. Also, the looms will not run as fast and the downtime will increase because it takes time to change the continuous chain of cards when the design changes.

For these reasons, it is best to use a mechanical jacquard machine to weave large batches.
