In Chinese tradition, the history of wearing new clothes for the New Year has a long history. Wearing new clothes, dragon and lion dance, sticking couplets, light off fireworks and hanging lanterns are indispensable parts of the festival.
People prefer to wear red clothes during the Spring Festival, especially children, which means good luck.
Wearing new clothes during Spring Festival is one of the ancient customs of the Chinese.
It is also recorded in "Dongjing Menghua Lu" that in the Song Dynasty, people would put on their best clothes and go around on New Year's Day. So the new clothes almost become the brand of Spring Festival. On New Year's Day, everyone wears new clothes.
