Research Triangle Park, North Carolina-February 23, 2021-Effective fabric quality control testing requires appropriate tools. AATCC now provides the Skew & Shrinkage Template for measuring the dimensional changes of fabrics. This user-friendly scale is designed in metric units to provide a measurement experience with versatility in fabric and garment measurement.

Measuring shrinkage

When fabrics are expected to be laundered repeatedly, evaluating the shrinkage or growth is the key to acceptance testing. Using the Skew & Shrinkage Template, laboratory technicians can perform AATCC TM135, a test method for fabric dimensional changes after home laundering, to measure the shrinkage of fabrics in the length and width directions.

Tilting and shrinking templates can be used to measure the shrinkage rate of garments using AATCC TM150 (test method for changes in garment size after household washing).

Shrinkage percentage

The precise percent shrinkage scale is displayed at the bottom of the scale and can be directly calculated.

Measuring skew

When the fabric is twisted from its original state, skew occurs in the garment. AATCC TM179, a test method for fabric skew changes after home laundering, is the industry preferred choice for determining skew changes. Using the Skew & Shrinkage template provides special tools for marking and measuring.

Universal Measuring Tools

In addition to performing these specialized AATCC methods, laboratory personnel can also use the template for routine measurements. Featured on the sides of the dimensional template are built-in utility rulers in both metric and standard units.
