1. Wool Flannel
Welsh flannel is traditionally made from wool, as are most European flannel types. It was only in the last few centuries that cotton was widely used in Europe because it was mainly produced in India.
2. Cotton Flannel
Cotton flannel became more popular during colonial expansionism, and the material is still highly sought after in soft, regal flannel garments or double-sided fleece sheets.
3. Synthetic or Hybrid Flannel
Many flannel types on the market today are made from synthetic materials such as polyester or nylon rather than natural fibers. Man-made textiles are more flammable and less harmful to the environment.
4. Ceylon Flannel
Originally developed in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), this flannel is a 50/50 blend of cotton and wool.
5. Baby Flannel
This flannel is double-faced, prized for its sophistication. It can be made from any material normally used to make flannel, but wool and cotton provide the softest texture for sensitive baby skin.
6. Diaper Flannel
While many parents wouldn't think of their cotton, reusable baby diapers as being made from the same fabric as winter sheets, the textile used to make these disposable diaper replacements is technically a flannel . This fabric is fleece on both sides to aid in absorbency and comfort.
7. Vegetable Flannel
In short, a type of flannel made from cellulose became popular in Europe in the 19th century. After the advent of petrochemical fabrics in the 20th century, vegetable flannel fell out of favor.
8. Flannel
Flannel is woven slightly differently than real flannel, which can result in a rougher texture. It can be made from any commonly used flannel woven material
