C stands for Coated paper, U stands for Uncoated paper.

Pantone C is bright color, and Pantone U is matte color.

Pantone C and Pantone U are versatile and can be used in basic industries.

The number of colors and numeric encoding of the two systems are the same, the difference being that the number is followed by a "C" and a "U".
